Stars, Hull mulling a reunion It turns out you can entertain the notion of going home again. At least if you're Brett Hull. Hull, 39, is considering signing on for a second tour of duty with the Dallas Stars, who he helped to the 1999 Stanley Cup championship. Hull has maintained a home in Dallas, so there will be no worries about finding a place to hang his hat if he does return. Hull is coming off three successful seasons with the Detroit Red Wings, where he was a member of the 2002 Stanley Cup team. He became an unrestricted free agent this summer and entertained several options, including strong interest from the Phoenix Coyotes. In 81 games last season, Hull scored 25 goals and 43 assists and was lauded for his work with Red Wings up-and-comers Pavel Datsyuk and Henrik Zetterberg. A return to Dallas would reunite Hull with Mike Modano, who is coming off a disappointing season, and veteran winger Jere Lehtinen. Hull told newspaper reporters he was "in discussion" with the Stars over a contract and planned to meet with Stars GM Doug Armstrong and coach Dave Tippett next week to go over contract details and the role he would have with the Stars. In Hull, the Stars know they are getting a future Hall of Famer. His 741 regular-season goals as third in NHL history, trailing only Wayne Gretzky (894) and Gordie Howe (801) Hull's return to Dallas would be a disappointment to the Coyotes, who made a strong presentation to lure Hull to Phoenix. "We have a genuine interest, we've made a serious and substantive offer, and we're awaiting his reply," Coyotes GM Mike Barnett said Wednesday. Hull has plenty of ties to the Coyotes. Barnett is his former agent and Hull and Gretzky are close friends. "If you know the relationship between Brett and Wayne Gretzky, and Brett and Mike Barnett, you know what a great fit this would be," said Bobby Hull Jr., Hull's brother and current agent. "Brett loves Phoenix and he's very comfortable with the situation. Their offer is both generous and very serious." Quelle: nhl.com
